HOW TO LOWER THE COST OF T-SHIRT PRINTING

Key Factors That Affect T-Shirt Printing Prices

When it comes to printing t-shirts, several factors influence the final cost. Understanding these will help you make smarter decisions for your budget and goals.

1. Shirt Type

The type of t-shirt you choose—whether it’s a basic round neck, polo, or a mandarin-collared tee—will affect the price. Generally, basic round neck tees are the most budget-friendly option. Unless your project specifically calls for something more unique, sticking to simple styles is often the smartest choice. Remember: clean and minimal can sometimes be more impactful than complex designs.

2. Material & Quality

The choice of fabric plays a major role in pricing. While there may be minimal price differences between cotton and Dri-Fit microfiber shirts at a basic level, the grade and quality within each material type can create significant cost variations.

  • Cotton Tees: A 160gsm cotton shirt is usually the most affordable. Stepping up to 180gsm may cost an extra 10–20 cents per piece. Premium cotton options like Gildan Premium Cotton can add $1 or more per shirt, depending on your order size.

  • Dri-Fit Microfibre: There are three main types—Standard Eyelet, Cooltech, and Interlock. Among these, Interlock is the most premium and therefore the priciest.

3. Number of Print Colors

The more colors in your design, the more complex the printing process becomes. This can lead to higher production costs and potentially longer turnaround times. If budget is a concern, fewer colors often mean lower prices and faster delivery.

4. Order Quantity

Ordering in bulk benefits everyone. Larger orders typically qualify for discounted rates, allowing you to save more per shirt. At the same time, it helps the printer streamline production. It’s a win-win!

Still Unsure? Remember These 3 Simple Tips:

  1. Keep it simple – Even 1–2 color designs can look fantastic and help reduce printing costs.

  2. Group your orders – Combine orders with friends, colleagues, or teams to meet bulk quantity thresholds and enjoy better pricing.

  3. Pick the right fabric – Choose materials that meet your needs. Unless you specifically require high-end fabrics, standard options will often do just fine
